Majali told Jo24 that air traffic in Sudan
is currently completely suspended, and land and sea ports are also closed,
while traffic on internal roads in the country is “very dangerous and almost
non-existent”.
“There was an announcement of a truce and
the
opening of safe passages, but it has not been fully respected, which has
prevented us from securing the return of Jordanians to the Kingdom,” he said.
Ongoing contactHowever, the ministry is maintaining
contact with
Jordanian citizens in Sudan, and the Jordanian embassy announced
an electronic form to register Jordanian community members. Thus far, 340 names
have been registered, he said.
“There was an announcement of a truce and the opening of safe passages, but it has not been fully respected, which has prevented us from securing the return of Jordanians to the Kingdom.”
Furthermore, a large number of Jordanians
who reside in
Sudan had returned to the Kingdom before the holy month of
Ramadan in order to spend the month and holidays with their families, including
many students whose studies do not require them to be present inside the
country at all times, Majali said.
The ministry’s registration system is
available around the clock to record the addresses and phone numbers of
Jordanians in Sudan in order to establish consistent communication, the
spokesperson added.
