Amman – Minister of Government Communication and government spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani met on Monday with a delegation from Columbia University’s School of Journalism and the university’s center in Amman.

During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Government Communication and attended by the ministry's Secretary-General Dr. Zaid Al-Nuwaiseh, the two sides discussed cooperation between the ministry and Columbia University in the fields of media and communication, particularly in areas such as fact-checking, combating hate speech, addressing misleading content, and training.
In this regard, Al-Momani highlighted Jordan's efforts to combat misleading content and rumors, and emphasized the ongoing promotion of media and information literacy as an effective community and educational tool.
This initiative enhances society’s ability to deal with fake news, misleading information, and rumors, while also helping educate young people on how to verify information and distinguish between accurate and false news.
He pointed out that Jordan is considered one of the leading countries in the Arab world in promoting media and information literacy, which plays a crucial role in reducing the spread of rumors, especially on social media platforms.
Dr. Jelani Cobb, Dean of Columbia University’s School of Journalism, presented an overview of the university’s programs aimed at teaching students about fact-checking and combating hate speech.
Cobb also mentioned several challenges facing the global media sector, including artificial intelligence tools, financial challenges, and digital transformation.
