During a meeting with the
Lower House Finance Committee to discuss the draft general budget and draft government units’ budget for fiscal year 2022, Ississ said “in my opinion, one of the financial problems that we had in the past was the inaccuracy of our expectations, which got us into trouble.”
“For the first time in years, we have exceeded projected revenue, we have exceeded projected income tax, we have exceeded projected sales tax, and so this is the third budget that we bring without any tax or fee hikes and without any new taxes or fees” Issis said. “We seek to gradually reduce the tax burden on people, and the best way to do so is through tax justice,” he said.
He noted that the
International Monetary Fund board approved on Tuesday the third official audit of Jordan without any delay.
“We are introducing economic, financial and monetary reforms that will put Jordan at full stability. Jordan’s credit rating has remained stable,” Issis said. “But the government’s greatest concern is the unemployment rate and he only way to control public debt is to raise growth,” he said. “The plan is for local revenues to cover 94 percent of current expenditures in the 2024 budget,” he concluded.
