The
sighting of the crescent moon will signify the beginning of the holy
month of Ramadan the following day.
If
the
crescent moon is sighted on Wednesday, the month of Ramadan will begin on
Thursday. However, if the sighting is not confirmed until Thursday evening,
then the first day of fasting will begin on Friday.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, refraining from food, drink, and
other physical needs. The month is also a time for prayer, reflection, and acts
of charity.
Tonight,
the sighting of the
Ramadan crescent moon is anticipated in certain regions
around the world, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the UK, and Australia. These
countries are preparing to observe the first day of fasting tomorrow.
Due
to the Islamic calendar being lunar-based,
the start and end dates of Ramadan
rely on the visibility of the crescent moon, causing the fasting date to shift
annually.
