The Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, Ahmad Al-Hasanat, confirmed on Sunday that there is no agreement on determining the duration of fasting during Ramadan (whether 29 or 30 days).

Al-Hasanat told "Al-Mamlaka" TV that the decision is not influenced by any internal or external political pressures. It is solely a religious decision, with the responsibility lying with the religious authorities, specifically the Islamic Research and Studies Council.
He added that the decision regarding the date of Eid al-Fitr is made by the members of the Fatwa Council, which consists of 11 members, who are representatives within the council. They review scientific and astronomical data, taking into account the results of observations sent from various regions of the kingdom.
Al-Hasanat pointed out that after studying the data and deliberating, the council reaches a consensus on the date of Eid al-Fitr.
The Grand Mufti also emphasized that the decision to determine the date of Eid al-Fitr in Jordan is an independent one and is not influenced by any other country. He noted that the department has a method for confirming the sighting of the moon that is not disputed by anyone.
He clarified that if the moon is sighted in Jordan or a neighboring country and the sighting is scientifically and astronomically accepted, the beginning of the month will be announced accordingly.
Al-Hasanat concluded by stating that it is not the task of astronomers to determine the start of months religiously, as their role is to provide the information they have for the fatwa.
