The organization
also said the draft contradicted the children rights convention, and excluded
the role of parents in the upbringing and of children.
Pointing to
articles 4–6 in the Jordanian Constitution, which stipulate that the family is
the foundation of society and is based-on religion, morality, and patriotism,
the proposed legislation ignores the role of parents in protecting their
children’s rights.
The organization
clarified, that the proposed draft goes against the constitution, regarding the
family’s role in society, its strength and its link to religion and morality,
as well as contradicting the children’s convention.
The organization
said the proposed bill copied the child’s convention, and that some provisions
in the convention were discarded, such as article No. 5 which affirms the
rights of parents or guardians. It said the draft also removed restrictions on
children, so that their rights become absolute, without any restrictions or
control.
