AMMAN —
Guidelines have been issued in the Official Gazette identifying professions and handicrafts that
non-Jordanians are banned from practicing based on
Article 12 of the investment environment bylaw for 2023.

According to the new guidelines,
non-Jordanians of both sexes are prohibited from working in barbershops;
upholstery and furniture renovation workshops, dessert, pastry, or
ice cream production facilities for direct sale, carpentry, blacksmithing, aluminum
fabrication, and metal processing industries.
Non-Jordanians are also prohibited from
working in embroidery and traditional sewing workshops,
goldsmiths and jewelry workshops, pure water bottling facilities, and nut roasting and
packaging facilities for the purpose of direct sale.
Under the guidelines, non-Jordanians are
not permitted to work in the laundry or plastics fields or for photography
companies, clothes dyeing facilities, and auto mechanic workshops.
The instructions exclude establishments
that practice crafts and handicrafts with more than 10 workers registered with the
Social Security Corporation.
