The King spoke in a
meeting Sunday with political figures, including former Minister of Foreign
Affairs
Nasser Judeh, who said that the purpose of the meeting was to “inform
us about the outcome of His Majesty’s meetings in France, New York and Japan”.
Judeh said the
remarks underline the king’s keenness to let officials in on the course of
global developments.
Judeh said that
details of the discussion will remain within the context of the meeting’s
privacy, but pointed out that His Majesty focused in general on protecting
Jordanian interests.
Other issues
included Jordan’s endeavor, through cooperation with brotherly and friendly
countries, to establish regional projects that would support the Jordanian
economy, improve the living conditions of Jordanians, and reduce unemployment
rates by activating the economic cooperation in the region.
Judeh said the
King, in all his meetings and communication with leaders around the world,
reiterates Jordan’s firm position on the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem being
the capital of a would-be Palestinian state.
His Majesty also
insists that the only way to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is through a
“two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent
Palestinian state on the lines pre-June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its
capital, the efforts made with the active parties to attain a just and lasting
peace, and that Jordan will not change its stance under any circumstances.”
Judeh also
contended that His Majesty focused on the need to include the Palestinian
people in regional economic projects, given that strengthening the economic
aspect is one of the most important components of the desired Palestinian
state, to enhance their steadfastness and mitigate the economic challenges they
face.
