The Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, on Thursday inaugurated The 3rd International Medical Conference on Thalassemia, Hemophilia, and Sickle Cells Diseases (Hybrid), which is organized by the Jordanian Thalassemia & Hemophilia Society (JTHS), in cooperation with the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) and Thalassemia International Federation (TIF).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hawari said the Ministry of Health implements support programs and keeps pace with medical development related to thalassemia and hemophilia treatment.
The ministry also encourages continuous cooperation and coordination among various medical institutions to provide medical care for the two diseases' patients, Hawari pointed out.
On the local arena, Hawari noted the ministry pays attention to improving the level and quality of health services, immunizing citizens and children from infectious diseases, and treating chronic diseases, especially thalassemia and hemophilia.
The ministry, he noted, had taken measures to prevent the increase in the number of these diseases' carriers, by passing a law on mandatory premarital test in 2004, stressing that this decision led to a drop in the number of newborns' cases from 90 to 20 annually.
Jordan occupies an "advanced" position in care for thalassemia and hemophilia, pointing out that the Ministry of Health provides treatment for these diseases "free of charge," in all public hospitals and centers countrywide, according to Hawari.
