AMMAN — Coordinator of the
National Campaign for Defending Students’ Rights (Thabahtoona) Fakher Daas
described the results of the supplementary session of the General Secondary
Education Certificate (Tawjihi) as “surprising,” as the results have yielded a
high success rate, according to Khaberni News.

Daas said that there are no
indicators that explain the improvement of results, which raises questions. “Maybe
some students were able to raise their scores, but the number of students who
passed the exam is huge and unprecedented,” he said.
Daas stressed that there should be
an explanation as to what happened since the results showed a big jump and that
the
Ministry of Education did not provide enough information about the high
success rate.
The number of students in vocational
fields is low, which contradicts the government’s calls that encourage
vocational education, said Daas, adding that the ministry is responsible for
the failure to develop vocational training mechanisms.
Daas expressed concern about the reasons
behind the high success rate, and that the matter will be addressed within
days.
On Thursday, he also said that there
was no reason to postpone schools later than February 20, and that education
must be a priority.
He pointed out that it would be
possible to accept postponement of the second semester, but on clear grounds,
but never to return to distance learning, saying it has been a failed
experience and a loss of education for students.
