AMMAN — Heba Al-Dajah, the deputy head of the
Jordan Valley Snake Lovers group, has issued a warning that the recent high temperatures have
caused an increase in the emergence of venomous snakes in several areas of
Jordan, particularly in Amman and Zarqa.

According to Khaberni, two serious cases of snake bites were
recorded last April, one of which involved a 40-year-old woman. In May, a child
died, and another suffered a severe bite from a venomous saw-scaled viper.
Harm reduction effortsIn response to the situation, Dajah stated that her team is
working tirelessly to combat the rise of venomous snakes in Jordan, especially
in the public facilities that are most affected.
She added that saw-scaled vipers are a frequent invaders in
these areas. Her team is using all available resources to prevent these snakes
from causing harm.
Vaccine efficacyDajah also expressed concern about the effectiveness of the
Indian vaccine against snake venom and called on the concerned authorities at
the Ministry of Health to provide the Saudi vaccine, which has proven to be
highly effective in treating patients.
The Jordan Valley Snake Lovers team is personally procuring
the antivenom from neighboring countries and distributing it free of charge to
cases of snake bites.
The group is
encouraging people to take precautions and to seek immediate medical attention
if they encounter a venomous snake.
