The two-day workshop, attended by members of the Technical Committee for the National Strategy for Reproductive and Sexual Health representing relevant national authorities, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and methods to develop concise and effective policy papers on population and development issues. It focuses on understanding the requirements, specifications, and components of policy summaries, as well as techniques for information search and sourcing, analyzing research data, and formulating policy options to address identified issues.

Issa Masarwa, Secretary-General of the Council, underscored the critical role of well-crafted policy summaries and fact sheets in garnering support for issues throughout the policy-making process, underlining that these documents are pivotal in initiating discussions, gaining recognition, and progressing towards the development of actionable policies or plans to achieve desired objectives.

Masarwa highlighted that policy papers are instrumental in defining issues, presenting statistical data on prevalence and impact, proposing viable solutions, and enabling decision-makers to adopt effective strategies to address societal challenges.

During the workshop, Ghaleb Azza, the Council’s principal researcher, guided participants through the essential elements of policy papers related to population and development. He highlighted methodologies for selecting priority issues, gathering comprehensive data from reliable sources, and formulating and evaluating alternative solutions to address identified challenges.
