of activists and politicians in various areas across the Kingdom in conjunction
with calls to commemorate the “October Uprising”, AmmanNet reported.

Himam said illegal detention is unconstitutional,
and contradicts the international agreements, which Jordan is a signatory to.
Such practices undermine all the efforts for reform
and political modernization, it added.
The detention of media representatives, and the
removal of images from their cellular phones is an attack on media freedoms,
and a form of intimidation that aggravates the negative image associated with
Jordan’s recent human rights record, and freedom of opinion and expression, the
coalition added.
Himam called on the various authorities to abide by
the spirit and text of the law, and affirmed that the rule of law is the only
means for Jordan to enhance citizens’ confidence in the state and the
government.
It also urged taking all measures to stop such
practices, and to adopt policies that prevent their repetition, and to hold the
perpetrators accountable.
