The 2022 holiday and new year season, which
began on December 20, is witnessing an “exceptional” number of tourist
bookings, with hotels in Petra and reaching 90-95 percent capacity,
Al-Mamlaka TV reported the association as saying.
Association spokesperson and member of the
board of directors Nabih Riyal said that the most active tourism markets during
this season are
European markets such as Italy, France, and Spain, as well as those
in North and South America.
“Tourism is Jordan’s oil,” Riyal said. “The
sector accounts for around 14 percent of the GDP and directly and indirectly
employs nearly 60,000 citizens.”
Inbound tourism is also “an essential
tributary of local communities, especially in the south of the Kingdom,” he
added.
“Steps taken by the government and security
agencies play a key role in ensuring that tourists enjoy themselves and have a
pleasant time in Jordan,” he said, highlighting the efforts of the Ministry of
Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the private sector to
market the Kingdom as a tourism destination, making it stand out on the world
map.
