AMMAN —
Ministry of Social Development Spokesperson Ashraf Khreis said home nurseries
cannot be exempted from obtaining licenses from the ministry, yet few applied
so far for permissions to function even though the process was simplified and
costs nothing.

Khreis said the
ministry is trying to see what holds home nurseries back.
“It is the
ministry’s duty to follow up on the home nurseries matter,” Khreis told
Jordan
News, adding that “in July 2021, the ministry issued instructions and
regulations for opening home nurseries with the minimum possible requirements;
still, the ministry also seeks to protect children.”
Of those that
did apply for license, “so far one out of four got approval; the others are
still being processed” Khreis said, adding that approving home nurseries does
not take much time, but the nurseries still awaiting approval “have just
applied for the license”.
Khreis also said
that home nurseries are usually houses and the ministry officials “are not
allowed to enter except with permission from the governor”.
“The ministry’s
doors are open for all those who wish to obtain licenses,” stressed Khreis, who
also said that Minister of Social Development Ayman Mufleh will review the
process of issuing licenses to home nurseries “so as to encourage their owners
and make things legal”.
Eslam Mohammad,
a home nursery owner in Irbid, told
Jordan News that she had “recently
posted an advertisement to promote her nursery on social media, but nobody
registered”.
“Once I get
clients, I will immediately apply for a license at the ministry,” she stressed.
Hadeel Mohammad,
another home nursery owner from east Amman, said: “I currently have two kids in
my nursery, one 1 and one 3 years of age.”
“I do not mind
applying for a license from the Ministry of Social Development. I am planning to
do so soon, as my nursery is still new,” she said, admitting that she did not
know what the procedures for obtaining a license were.
