in 100,000, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

Miqdadi pointed
out that crime rates in the Kingdom are expected to remain the same, noting
that developing a national framework for domestic violence protection requires
awareness, intervention and management, and that many crimes can be prevented
through strengthening the protection system.
He said that the
lack of clear data on crime hinders the policy-making process, especially
knowing that crime and violence have many causes.
“Crime rates
within the family in poor countries are higher than in rich countries,” said
Miqdadi.
Professor of
Criminology Khawla Al-Hassan contended that the last demographic survey showed
that 46 percent of women justify violence against them, and official statistics
indicated that 50 percent of divorced women were subjected to violence during
their marriage.
“violent behaviors
in our society are sometimes justified and acceptable,” said Hassan.
Hassan also noted
that the psychological and
social pressures, the absence of dialogue in the
family, and the presence of weapons at home are all risk factors that may lead
to violence. She added that families who have drug or alcohol-addicted members
are also vulnerable and at risk of crime.
According to Hassan, there
are victims who experience violence, but do not report them to authorities due
to the lack of a culture of reporting violence in Jordan.
