The student’s parents filed
a complaint about the
teacher with the public prosecutor which investigated the
case.
The student was distracting other
students in the classroom when the incident occurred, according to the teacher.
When the case was investigated by the school principal, the student said the
reason he was beaten by the teacher was for “a lemon” without elaborating
further.
The teacher’s family concluded a
tribal reconciliation agreement with the student’s family, guaranteeing that
they would pay all the student’s medical expenses until he is fully recovered.
The tribal
reconciliation agreement will be filed Sunday with the Public Prosecutor in
order to arrange bail for the teacher.
Director of the Education Department in Bani Kinanah, Othman
Bani Younis, visited the student, Aws Abdul Kareem, who is being treated at
Princess Basma Hospital, to check on his medical condition, according to
Al-Ghad.
Bani Younis told Al-Ghad that an investigation committee was
formed to investigate the incident and submit a final report to the Ministry of
Education.
The director said that the student was in good health and would
be discharged from hospital on Saturday.
He added that the education department will take the necessary
measure against the teacher after the investigation was completed.
Spokesperson of the Education Ministry, Ahmad Masaafeh, said
that corporal punishment of students is considered a reckless act which the
ministry strongly rejects, since it does not conform to its educational
philosophy, vision, message, and values.
