AMMAN — The
House of Representatives on Monday approved the draft amendment to Article 20 of the
Constitution, 2021, after receiving the endorsement from the Senate, according
to Al-Mamlaka TV.

The Senate Legal Committee on
Thursday approved all draft amendments to the Constitution articles, as
received from the House of Representatives, with an amendment to Article 20.
The decision was voted favorably on
for by 102 deputies, while 13 voted against. According to the amendment, MPs who
own up to 5 percent of shares in a company have no say in any contract signed
by their companies with the government during their term in office.
The approved Article 20 prohibits senators
and parliamentarians, during their term in office, from concluding contracts,
leasing, selling, bartering or signing any contract whatsoever with the
government, public institutions, companies owned or controlled by the
government, except for those in which they are shareholders.
Today, the Senate will hold a
session to approve the draft amendment to the Constitution in its final form;
it will be submitted to His Majesty King Abdullah II for approval.
