AMMAN — The Lower House Economy and Investment Committee decided to refer the Governorates Development Fund (GDF) project-based funding file to Jordan Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission (JIACC) over corruption suspicions.اضافة اعلان

The decision came during a committee meeting held Sunday, headed by MP Khair Abu Sa’ilek, during which the GDF’s performance was discussed, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

After reviewing the GDF-funded projects, the committee found that the amounts paid back by borrowers are “very low,” compared to expenditures, which led to losses in the fund’s money, Abu Sa’ilek pointed out.

The committee, he said, will submit a letter to the House Speaker detailing all GDF-funded projects, whether shut down, operating or under implementation, in addition to a recommendation to refer the fund’s file to JIACC for further investigation to take appropriate action in this regard.

Abu Sa’ilek said preserving public money is “a priority” for the committee, stressing the importance of “thoroughly” reviewing the GDF’s funding mechanism and laying criteria to identify project feasibility, which would have a “positive” social and economic impact on creating job opportunities for Jordanians.
