Rfou said in a
press release that inspection campaigns have been intensified inside the
reserve to ensure there are no violations by
hunters who are not bound by the
decision to stop hunting, but if there are, immediate legal action is taken
against them. He added that the most affected by hunting are partridges and the
chukars, whose numbers are gradually declining.
Over the past
years, violators were prosecuted, he said, adding that hunters resort to all
sorts of practices to kill
birds, such as the use of nets and devices whose
sounds attract birds, methods that are prohibited by the laws concerned with
the protection of nature.
Rfou urged hunters
to comply with decisions and instructions that prohibit
hunting, and said that
several meetings have been held with local community and hunters to familiarize
them with the environment- management plans and the periods when hunting is
allowed, to protect endangered animals and birds, and to exchange views and
opinions, and address their demands.
Dana Reserve has a
unique ecological diversity, with over than 833 species of plants, 38 species
of mammals and 215 species of birds.
The Agriculture
and Environment Acts contain provisions that prohibit hunting within the
boundaries of the reserve, in order to protect wildlife, and restore bird
flocks by helping them rebreed.
