AMMAN — The Independent Election
Commission (IEC) approved the application for the establishment of the Sama
Jordan Democratic Party, after confirming that all the documents submitted for
setting up the party conformed with the law, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

IEC called on the party founders to complete the
remaining requirements, including holding the party’s constituent conference
within a period not exceeding one year from the date of the application’s
acceptance.
IEC also found that the National Charter party met the requirements for
incorporation within the statutory period, regarding the number of members
stipulated in the Parties Act. The act requires the party to have at least
1,000 founding members, among them inhabitants of at least six governorates.
Furthermore, at least 20 percent of the founding members must be youth between
the ages of 18 and 35, another 20 percent must be women, and at least one
member must be a person with special needs, according to the law.
