Why the deadline mattersAccording to Article (40/b) of the Political Parties Law No.
(7) of 2022, parties established before the law came into force have one year
from the date of validity to correct their status through a general conference,
as stipulated in paragraph (a) of Article (11).
Failure to do so will result in the party being dissolved
under the provisions of the law.
In a statement, the
IEC explained that designating the deadline was necessary to ensure that all applications are considered within
the set time frame, in order to complete the enforcement of the provisions of
the law with fairness and competence.
The commission stressed that the April 20 deadline would
enable parties looking to reconcile their situation to hold their general
conference within the set period, giving them ample time to carry out their
legal duties and responsibilities within the law.
