Khasawneh said that the committee
will complete its investigation and submit its recommendations within three
weeks at the latest, to determine the responsibilities and shortcomings, if any,
and to take administrative and legal measures against those responsible.
The
Cabinet also decided to task
a consulting company to assess the status of the electricity network in various
regions of the Kingdom, especially in the capital, Amman, and to work on
modernizing it and setting standards for evaluating the performance of
electricity distribution companies and ensure that they match international
standards.
The Cabinet directed the relevant
ministries and institutions to conduct a comprehensive survey of the issue of trees
intertwined with electricity poles and wires, in order to avoid what happened during
the snowstorm.
Khasawneh stressed that the outages
"affected the image of efficient and high-level performance" of all
government institutions, as well as that of the individual and voluntary
efforts that were made during the inclement weather conditions.
The prime minister praised the
performance of the
Armed Forces-the Arab Army, of the Public Security, Civil
Defense, the relevant ministries, the
Greater Amman Municipality, and the
voluntary sector, as well as that of the Jordan Meteorological Department whose
accurate forecasts played a great role in preparing in advance for the weather.
Khasawneh also expressed
condolences over the death of a Greater Amman Municipality worker who passed
away while performing his duty of opening snowed roads.
Meanwhile, President of Energy and
Mineral Resources Parliamentary Commission Firas Al-Ajarmeh said on Monday,
that “the primary recommendation” of the independent commission is to transfer
the issue of electricity outage to the judiciary.
"The file should
go to the judiciary to determine responsibilities; every person must be held
accountable for the failures that occurred,” said Ajarmeh.
