AMMAN —
Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association
(JITOA) spokesperson Nabih Riyal said on Tuesday that some travel reservations
to Jordan have been canceled due to a shortage of available hotel rooms in
Petra and Aqaba, as well as a shortage of tour guides, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

Riyal said that the exact number of cancelled
reservations has not been calculated.
Meanwhile, Petra Development and Tourism Region
Authority Chief Commissioner Suleiman Al-Farajat said that there are about 400
empty hotel rooms ready to receive tourists in the city.
Farajat pointed out that Petra hotels have around
4,000 rooms, with some apartment hotels also available. The current hotel
occupancy rate, he said, is at 80–90 percent.
According to Riyal, the Jordanian tourism sector is
currently unprepared to receive large numbers of tourists. During the
COVID-19 pandemic, he said, tourism stakeholders were not able to develop the sector or
increase the number of hotel rooms.
