AMMAN — The budget of the
Jordan Center for Disease Control (JCDC) for the year 2024 has increased to approximately JD3.094
million compared to JD1.908 million in the previous year.

The notable differences between the estimated
allocations for 2024 and the re-estimated allocations for the previous year
include an increase in the total employee group by JD 670, 000, mainly focusing
on the natural increase in their salaries, filling vacant and updated
positions, and an increase in allocations for the use of goods and services by
JD186,000.
Additionally, there is an increase of JD30,000 in other expenses,
focusing on allocations necessary for purchasing services from various experts,
Khaberni reported.
One of the priorities and targeted results
within the specified frameworks for the years 2024-2026 is combating epidemics,
enhancing and activating the laboratory network at all levels, direct linking
of data to the monitoring system, strengthening national capacity and
competence to detect, monitor, and confirm prevalent and emerging diseases.
This includes coordination with national laboratory efforts, the establishment
of a national reference laboratory, and an effective laboratory network at all
levels with data linked to the monitoring system.
The center is also working on preparing
national capabilities for detecting and monitoring emerging and prevalent
diseases through its laboratories, enhancing national capabilities for public
health emergency preparedness, response, resilience, and developing health
policies, strategies. Furthermore, the center aims to provide high-quality
capacity-building programs for public health professionals, develop enlightened
public health policies based on research evidence, and enhance the capabilities
of employees through nationally and internationally implemented research
programs.
Among the tasks adopted by the center in its
plans are monitoring and evaluating the intensity and impact of epidemics,
infectious diseases, and health threats, including environmental issues,
agriculture, animals, and climate change. It is also involved in developing
threat standards, a surveillance system, operating a national geographic
information system, coordinating efforts to respond to epidemics, pandemics,
and other health threats, implementing health emergency plans, monitoring and
tracking environmental health threats related to epidemics and communicable
diseases, providing reference diagnostic services for individuals, communities,
and health institutions, supervising the development and implementation of
strategies to control antibiotic resistance, and coordinating monitoring
initiatives globally in this regard.
