AMMAN –
General Consumer Price Index (inflation) rose to
9.78 percent compared to 8.31 percent for the same month in the year 2022,
marking a 1.36 percent increase, according to the monthly report issued by the
Department of Statistics.

The report also noted a slight increase of 0.08 percent
(less than one percentage point) in consumer prices compared to the preceding
month of the same year. On an accumulated level, the index for the first ten
months of this year witnessed a 2.21 percent increase compared to the same
period in 2022, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
In terms of commodity groups, the key contributors to the
overall rise in the general Consumer Price Index for October 2023 compared to
the same month of 2022 were primarily the "Personal Items" group at
7.71 percent, "Tobacco and Cigarettes" at 5.17 percent, "Fruits
and Nuts" at 3.87 percent, "Rents" at 3.25 percent, and
"
Dairy and Dairy Products" and "Eggs" at 2.93 percent.
However, the "Clothing" group decreased by 3.12
percent, followed by "
Fuel and Lighting" at 1.77 percent,
"Household Textiles" at 1.38 percent, and "Beverages and
Refreshments" at 0.61 percent.
