AMMAN — A three-day workshop titled
"
World Heritage Sites as Centers for Creative Economy", which brought
together experts from 12 countries to discuss the relationship between heritage
and the wider cultural sector, concluded on Saturday.

The event covered how world heritage sites
can become hubs for creativity and thereby contribute to broader social and
economic development, according to a press statement.
The workshop was launched on Thursday by
the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the
Petra Tourism Development Region, Suleiman Al-Farajat. Other speakers included Dr Fadi Balaawi, the Director
of the Jordan Department of Antiquities and UNESCO Representative to Jordan Min
Jeong Kim and Professor Mike Robinson of Nottingham Trent University in the UK.
Topics included the creative and
appropriate use of both tangible and intangible heritage, the innovative use of
buildings for sustainable tourism, and the importance of developing regional
and global networks across different sectors.
