AMMAN - Interior Minister Mazen Faraya met with US Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Todd D. Robinson and an accompanying delegation on Thursday to discuss prospects for strengthening Jordan-US security cooperation, particularly in combating drugs and exchanging know-how and information, according to Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The meeting discussed Jordan's crucial role in combating drugs and preventing their local spread and transit to neighboring countries.
The minister highlighted an ongoing nationwide crackdown on narcotics, noting that Jordanian security services have recently increased their efforts in response to lax border security in some neighboring nations, which have become major drug trafficking hubs.
Robinson, for his part, praised Jordan's pivotal and important role in fighting drugs and preventing their transit to neighboring countries, despite the difficulty of the fight, and pledged that his country is ready to provide various forms of support and cooperation to the Kingdom in the war on drugs.
