Amman - The International Conference on Climate Change and Heritage Challenges titled "Facing Change: Jordan 2024" commenced Tuesday in Amman.

The three-day event is organized by the Petra National Trust in collaboration with the British Council, Cultural Protection Fund, and International National Trusts Organization.
The conference brings together 130 experts and specialists from 20 countries, alongside government entities including the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority.
Through workshops and panel discussions, participants will address the challenges posed by climate change and conflicts on cultural and natural heritage sites.
HRH Princess Dana Firas, President of the Petra National Trust and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Cultural Heritage, emphasized that hosting the conference provides an opportunity to showcase the Trust's efforts in building community resilience and preserving heritage sites threatened by climate risks.
She also highlighted the current regional developments, particularly noting the destruction of Palestinian heritage amid the Israeli offensive on Gaza.
Catherine Leonard, Secretary-General of the International National Trusts Organization, expressed her organization's commitment to working with the Cultural Protection Fund and the Petra National Trust, emphasizing the importance of learning from and collaborating with partners who share values of nature and heritage conservation.
Stephanie Grant, Director of the Cultural Protection Fund - British Council, described the conference as a valuable opportunity for grant recipients to network with heritage specialists and exchange knowledge and ideas for cultural heritage protection.
The Petra National Trust, established in 1989 as a non-governmental organization, continues its mission of preserving and protecting cultural heritage through sustainable solutions and integrated services.
