Nael Thiabat, the director of the Iraqi oil carrier company to Jordan, said that the company has stopped importing oil until the memorandum is signed by both countries.

He explained that the government must sign the agreement for the oil to be supplied to Jordan, indicating that the delay may be on the Iraqi side.

Compensation for delayed importationThiabat also pointed out that the company may call for compensation for the days it stopped importing oil until the memorandum is signed.

The new memorandum allows for the importation of 10,000 barrels per day, he added.

In March 2023, Jordan imported 310,000 barrels of oil. The Iraqi cabinet approved the recommendation of the Energy Council last Tuesday, renewing the memorandum of understanding that supplies Jordan with crude oil for one year.

Jordan imports Iraqi crude oil under a memorandum of understanding for supplying crude oil signed between the Jordanian and Iraqi governments.

The memorandum has been in effect since the beginning of September 2021.
