Al-Hassan Industrial City recorded exports worth $1 billion, while Cyber City
and other areas in the governorate exported commodities worth $60.4 million.
An ICI statement issued on Sunday said $49 million worth of goods were exported
under agreements with Arab countries.
Leather and the textile industries commanded the top position in the volume of
the governorate’s exports, with a value of $994 million, followed by therapeutic
industries and medical supplies at $25 million, food materials at $23 million.
Other exports covered chemical, plastic, packaging, construction and mining
industries.
The US market topped the list of importers of Jordanian goods, buying $795
million worth of commodities. It was followed by
EU countries at $77 million. Other
exports went to Arab markets, Canada, Southeast Asia, among other nations, the
statement said.
In an interview with Petra, Head of ICI Committee Hossam Waqfi said growth in
the governorate's exports is due to the improvement in global demand for
national industries in the wake of repercussions from the COVID-19 pandemic,
which forced an economic lull, and resumption of operations with full
production capacity.
