The municipality had discussed this file with the
prime minister, in the presence of the minister of planning and Royal Court
Chief Yousef Al-Issawi, and that the municipality was promised to be helped to
implement it next year, according to Kofahi.
He added that the municipality also discussed the
construction of a bridge from the Thakafeh Roundabout to Silat Barada, as well
as a light train project linking Irbid’s King Abdullah University Hospital with
the Jordan University of Science and Technology.
The project is in partnership with some investors,
the mayor said. He added that the government was briefed on the plan to
facilitate the task of investors after setting the guidelines with the
Transport Sector Regulatory Authority.
The project will serve thousands of citizens and
students who move daily from the city to those areas, and may extend to include
Al-Hassan Industrial Estate.
Kofahi said that the project will reduce traffic congestion
and accidents, and also reduce the cost to the national economy.
