The first
stop on the visit was Deir Abi Said School, where the envoy met with the
director of the Ministry of Education’s Legal Department, the director of
education for the Koura District, and the principal, teachers, and students of
the school, according to a press statement.
Youth
projectsThe
students showcased their projects to the ambassador, one of which was awarded
second place in the first Jordan Young Scientist Exhibition, which was held
last year.
The project
is based on the concept of recycling cigarette butts and involved a technique
for turning cigarette butts into erasers through the use of chemicals and
physical materials, in order to reduce the environmental impact of cigarette
waste.
JoYS is based on a partnership model. In Jordan, it brings together the government, the
Embassy of Ireland, the private sector, the Crown Prince Foundation, the Queen
Rania Foundation, and multiple educational institutions that oversee the
effective implementation of this important initiative, according to the
statement.
“The role of community leaders in mentoring the local community, including supporting orphans and refugees, is a positive example of the genuine altruism of the Jordanian people”
Window
for future collaborationFollowing
the school visit, Bolger stopped at Yarmouk University, where she met with the
President of the University, Islam Massad, and other colleagues to discuss
future collaboration between Jordanian and Irish universities.
The last
stop was at “Al Tal” Family Guesthouse, where the ambassador met with local
community leaders and participated in a discussion on the importance of culture
and education.
‘Inspirational’
visit“I was
delighted to pay my first visit to Irbid, in northern Jordan,” Bolger said in
the statement. “I met with the inspirational students at Deir Abi Said School,
who showcased impressive creativity and innovation through all the projects
displayed.”
“The visit
to Yarmouk University highlighted many opportunities to build on the existing
links, including in the medical field,” she continued. “Finally, the role of
community leaders in mentoring the local community, including supporting
orphans and refugees, is a positive example of the genuine altruism of the
Jordanian people.”
