AMMAN — The
Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) has signed an agreement with the
International Labor Organization (ILO) as part of a program to improve
opportunities for refugees and their host countries, according to Ad-Dustour
daily.

In
its pilot stage, the initiative will provide technical and financial support to
15 companies that employ
Syrian refugees alongside members of the Jordanian
host community. The program will provide help developing business plans, as
well as seed funding to help companies grow.
This
partnership is aimed at developing the Jordanian food industry, said Mohammad
Walid Al-Jitan, JCI deputy president and representative of the food and
catering industries. Jitan represented the chamber at the signing of the
agreement, where he met with Frida Khan, the
ILO program coordinator for Jordan.
The
agreement is part of PROSPECT, an international partnership that supports
refugee host communities across Africa and the Arab world. PROSPECT is funded
by the government of the Netherlands, in addition to the International Finance
Corporation, the
World Bank,
UNHCR, and
UNICEF.
