A report from the World Bank issued in 2019
indicated that the government was
working on developing 14 vital main roads, 12
of which are highways and two are circular roads with a total length of 1379
kilometers, representing 18 percent of the total road network in Jordan.
The aim is to integrate them into a financial
sustainability project by
imposing fees on their users. The report, reviewed by
Al-Mamlaka, suggested tolls would be 11 fils per kilometer on small vehicles
and 22 fils per kilometer on trucks on these roads.
The government allocated JD160 million dinars
to "finance priorities related to the studies of the new city, develop the
public transportation system, and conduct detailed studies for the Sustainable
Road Financing project (
Toll Roads)."
This is in addition to establishing the
Medical Simulation Center and developing the drug inventory system, according
to the Prime Minister's office.
