JSMO cracks down: 14 shutdowns, 66 warnings in 2023

AMMAN – On Saturday, Abeer Al-Zuhair, Director-General of the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO), announced the issuance of 14 closure decisions, 66 warnings, and the referral of 109 establishments to the public prosecutor in 2023 for violations of the Standards and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000 and its amendments.اضافة اعلان

Zuhair confirmed that the organization's staff conducted 3650 inspection tours of markets and local factories last year, covering all governorates, to ensure compliance with technical rules and Jordanian standards, as well as inspecting 2,891 elevators for public use, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

She went on to say that the organization is eager to provide conforming and high-quality products to the user, indicating that it has cracked down on many non-conforming products, including 28,500 pieces of personal care products such as shampoos, toothpaste, and brushes, 11,200 pieces of children's toys, and 3,450 pieces of non-conforming construction supplies.

Zuhair stated that the organization also destroyed around 10 tonnes of various cleaning materials, as well as 1,244 pieces of shoes, clothing, and bags with counterfeit trademarks.

Zuhair noted that JSMO received 1,030 complaints in the previous year, which the organization swiftly addressed.
