JSO records 104 earthquakes in Q1 of 2023

AMMAN – The Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO) has recorded 104 earthquakes within the borders of the Kingdom and its surrounding area, Palestine, the Red Sea, and Syria during the first four months this year.اضافة اعلان

According to JSO President Ghassan Sweidan the majority of the recorded earthquakes were of a low magnitude, measuring between 4.5 and 1.7 on the Richter scale, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

He added the seismic equipment in Jordan are able to monitor tremors and earthquakes that reach as far as east of Australia and even far west of Canada.

Round-the-clock monitoringJSO, which operates under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continuously monitors, records, and analyzes local, regional, and global seismic activity round-the-clock through its 23 seismic monitoring stations that are spread throughout the Kingdom.

The observatory and its main center in the Ministry of Energy monitors, records and analyzes local, regional and global seismic activity using the latest international devices and technologies around the clock through 23 seismic monitoring stations distributed throughout the Kingdom.
