During a press conference on Sunday, the
project manager of
iHERITAGE: ICT Mediterranean platform for
UNESCO cultural heritage, Talal Al-Akasha revealed the completion of an integrated website
containing information about the city of Petra and the region, showcasing its
unique cultural, historical, and touristic heritage. Additionally, a 3D film
about the "Rose City" has been produced, enabling visitors from any
country to virtually tour Petra, Addustour reported.
JSSREC received support for the iHERITAGE
project which aims to lead and promote innovation in the field of cultural
heritage. The project involves a wide range of governmental and civil
institutions from six Mediterranean countries, focusing on cross-border
technology transfer, living labs, and collaboration between the academic and
industrial sectors to create new secondary products using the latest
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) techniques, including augmented
reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.
Expand results of scientific research
The project's goal is to enhance the
interpretation of
UNESCO cultural heritage in the Mediterranean region and
expand the results of scientific research.
Dr. Al-Akasha stated that this achievement
will contribute to promoting Petra worldwide and increase the number of
tourists after experiencing the city through this technology. He emphasized
that it serves as documentation of
Jordan's cultural heritage and preservation
efforts.
Involves participation from Jordan’s youth
The project also prioritized active
participation from youth and marginalized individuals in education, work, or
vocational training. Many of them participated in local support groups, living
labs, and training courses organized by the association and the
Department of Antiquities. Furthermore, the project aimed to strengthen collaboration between
universities and small to medium-sized enterprises in creating innovative
products in augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality.
To promote Jordan’s tourist, cultural, and
heritage sites globally
Dr. Rida Al-Khawaldeh, president of the
JSSREC emphasized the association's commitment to cooperating and engaging with
all local and international entities to promote Jordan's tourist, cultural, and
heritage sites globally. This project aligns with the directives of
His Majesty King Abdullah, especially focusing on the youth's role in innovation and
creativity.
Meanwhile, Dr. Fadi Balawieh, general
director of the
Department of Antiquities, emphasized the project would aid in
the development and documentation of archaeological information, improve site
