The municipality will take steps to license the
chalets after changing the building use type to mixed-use to facilitate
operation and licensing procedures, he said. These new measures aim to boost
the development of tourism in the municipality and extend visitors’ stays.
Atoum added that the municipality is also working in
partnership with the Tourism Directorate at the Ministry of Tourism and
Antiquities to count the number of historical homes within the governorate and
convert them into hotels.
The municipality is working to license 16 historical
houses in Jerash as hotels to attract visitors and extend tourist stays, he
said.
The historical houses have a “traditional feel” that
reflects a different time period in the city’s history, Atoum said.
