Secretary-General of Jordan’s Royal
Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan said on Monday that the
declaration “is a key approach for exposing Israel's Zionist schemes in the
occupied city”.
Kanaan pointed to the need for an
integrated Arab media strategy to support the Palestinian people's right to
self-determination and preserve its deep-rooted historical identity, especially
as the Palestinian people, land, holy sites, and identity are subject to
systematic daily attacks, he said.
"This reassertion is key to exposing
the dangerous attacks on our people in the occupied city,” Kanaan said in a
press release. Such attacks “threaten the
Arab identity of the city as the
occupation seeks to erase it, replacing it with a Jewish identity based on
Talmudic lies that are being promoted through its Zionist schemes."
Global media and international public opinion provide an important space in the struggle to defend the people of Palestine and Jerusalem.
The newly announced media strategy is
particularly needed to keep pace with rapid developments related to
settlements, incursions, and “the enactment of dangerous apartheid laws by
Israel”, including the property settlement law in Jerusalem’s Old City and
around
Al-Aqsa Mosque, the press release said. “With the support of settlement
companies, Israel is attempting to rid the Old City and the entire city of
Jerusalem of the Palestinian people and replace them with settlers,” it added.
The role of media in the struggleAccording to Kanaan, the Royal Committee
for Jerusalem Affairs reaffirms that global media and international public
opinion provide an important space in the struggle to defend the people of
Palestine and Jerusalem.
He pointed to
Jordan's position, historical
role, and Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in
Jerusalem, adding that the committee considers all media sources as important
platforms to defend Palestine and Jerusalem.
Kanaan called on independent Arab, Islamic,
and international media to discuss the Palestinian issue by publishing reliable
media materials, hosting experts, and launching media platforms for
information, including statistics and news on Palestine and Jerusalem.
