The agreement was signed by
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh, AFD Deputy CEO Bertrand Walckenaer, and an
official from French Embassy in Amman.
Shraideh said the loan will support the general budget for
2022–2024 and aims to support the government’s efforts to promote gender
equality. Four ministries will adopt the gender-responsive budgeting policy
first, with the cooperation of the General Budget Department: the Ministry of
Labor, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the Ministry of
Parliamentary and Political Affairs.
For his part, Walckenaer said that, with this approach, Jordan
will be at the forefront of countries working to promote gender equality.
The AFD will provide technical assistance and a capacity-building
grant valued at 1.5 million euros, to be implemented by UN Women, to help to
implement the program.
Shraideh
thanked the
French government and the AFD for this continued support to the
Kingdom and for their understanding of the economic and social challenges
Jordan faces. Jordan values greatly its relationship with France within the
framework of the EU and the bilateral efforts to improve cooperation in areas
of mutual political, social, and economic interest.
