Jordanian Nurses and Midwives Council (JNMC)
has called for an emergency meeting with its representatives in the
Ministry of Health to discuss measures aimed at ensuring that members’ demands will be met
and said in a statement that it could resort to escalation if “those demanded
rights are not fulfilled.”

The Council is demanding that wages of members working in
the public sector be matched with other health professions, according to Jo24.
The statement, signed by the president of the Council,
Khaled Rababah, stated that the Council has asked for a 35 percent raise in
overtime allowance for public sector members to match the allowance of doctors,
pharmacists and veterinarians.
Rababah said the Council has requested the raise of the
government two years ago, but has not received any favorable response, adding
that the government’s position shows “disregard of the efforts of nurses, particularly
in light of the pandemic and the great national and humane work that they
perform.”
