AMMAN — The Jordanian-Qatari trade
exchange volume increased significantly last year, by over 28 percent compared
to 2021.

The joint trade volume in 2022 totaled about
JD156 million, up from JD122 million in 2021, according to official Qatari
data. That puts the Growth of bilateral trade during 2022 at about JD34 million
($48.3 million), representing a 28.2 percent increase compared to 2021.
In statements to the Jordan News Agency,
Petra, Qatari traders and importers attributed the increase to a rise in Jordanian
exports to Qatar, especially during the
World Cup, which increased Qatari demand
for goods and products, especially foodstuffs.
The two countries' trade balance over the
past ten years has exceeded JD2.2 billion ($3.17 billion), according to
official statistics issued by the
Qatar Planning and Statistics Authority.
An Emirates trade recordIn a related development, the UAE's foreign
trade value rose during the first nine months of 2022 to an unprecedented level
of 1.637 trillion dirhams ($445.7 billion), a growth of 19 percent compared to
the same period last year, Ammon News reported.
Qatari traders and importers attributed the increase to a rise in Jordanian exports to Qatar, especially during the World Cup, which increased Qatari demand for goods and products
Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi, UAE Minister
of State for Foreign Trade, said that the Emirates’ foreign trade "has
consolidated its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, recording higher rates
than it was before the pandemic," according to an opinion article quoted
by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
This has coincided with a diversification
of exports as the UAE has increased its non-oil exports, whose contribution to
total foreign trade amounted to 20 percent during the first nine months of last
year, compared to 12 percent five years ago, Zeyoudi said.
