Kharfan underscored Jordan's unwavering support for UNRWA, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, emphasizing the agency’s vital role in providing services to Palestinian refugees in camps within its operational areas.
Baker commended His Majesty’s stance, reiterating UNRWA's commitment to continue its mission despite ongoing challenges and efforts to tarnish its image internationally. He also highlighted UNRWA's allocation of 14 schools as polling stations for the upcoming elections in Jordan, including 8 in Irbid Governorate, 5 in Baqa'a, and 1 in Wahdat, as part of its efforts to support the electoral process. Additionally, UNRWA has encouraged its employees to participate in the elections.
The meeting covered several issues concerning refugee camps, including education, civil society organizations, and the rights of UNRWA workers, particularly regarding financial entitlements.
The officials also discussed the political crisis UNRWA is facing, with attempts by the Israeli occupation to undermine the agency, and the impact of these pressures on its financial situation and the services it provides to Palestinian refugees.
