AMMAN — The labor subcommittee of the
Jordanian-American Joint Committee held its fourth meeting on Wednesday at the
Ministry of Labor to discuss ways to strengthen the Jordanian market’s
adherence to international labor standards, according to the Jordan News
Agency, Petra.

The meeting, headed by the ministry’s
Secretary-General
Farouk Hadidi, and the US Department of Labor’s Deputy
Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee tackled concerns over the
garment and textile sector as well as US support to the
International Labor Organization’s
Better Work Jordan program.
It also discussed gender equality, increasing worker
participation in trade unions, improving working conditions, and implementing
global standards of safety, health, and cooperation.
The meeting highlighted Jordan’s labor sector
achievements as a result of US support for Jordanian programs and policies,
emphasizing the importance of continuing to cooperate and leverage the two
countries’ long-standing ties.
The US official praised the
Labor Ministry’s
“effective measures” over the years, which contributed to enhancing adherence
to global labor standards.
