The agreement was signed at the guest house in Deir Alla, with the goal of empowering these associations, which oversee more than 78 percent of the irrigated land in the valley.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation highlighted that the memorandum is designed to improve water distribution, reduce water losses, and preserve infrastructure, all in cooperation with the Jordan Valley Authority.

The agreement was formalized during a joint meeting between the Jordan Valley Authority and the Jordan Cooperative Corporation. Attendees included the Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority, Hisham Haisa, and the Director-General of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation, Abdul Fattah Shalabi, along with senior officials from both entities, representatives from the Water Users Associations, and other key stakeholders involved in irrigation water management.

Haisa underscored the vital role of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation in strengthening the capacities of local communities, while Shalabi expressed his gratitude for the authority’s efforts to involve farmers in the management of irrigation water.

He further noted that the initiative aligns with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, which seeks to enhance public-private partnerships and provide training opportunities for local associations.
