AMMAN—Secretary-General
of the Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC), Mohammad Taani, said Jordan is
a leading Arab country in the energy transition, which is clear in the
contribution of renewable energy by more than 20% in meeting power needs,
according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Speaking at
a lecture recently at the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College (RJCSC) on
the future of renewable energy and green hydrogen in Arab countries, Taani said
Jordan’s geographical location is an economic catalyst for its future in the
energy transition at the level of the Middle East region, in addition to its
electrical interconnection with all Arab countries and efforts to develop the
power infrastructure.
According to
an AREC statement issued Saturday, Taani noted many Arab countries, including
Jordan, have taken "practical" steps to reach carbon neutrality in
2050, expecting that the volume of Arab investments in renewable energy and
green hydrogen will reach about $1 trillion by 2040.
