AMMAN — The Foreign Relations Commission of the
National Assembly of the Republic of Panama executed a formal protocol act on August 23, solidifying
the creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group between the Kingdom
and the
Republic of Panama.

Chaired by H.D.
Gonzalo Gonzalez, President of the Foreign Relations Commission, the protocol act marked the inclusion of
Panamanian deputies as members of the newly instituted friendship group. The
virtual event was graced by the participation of His Excellency José Ulises
Lescure,
ambassador of Panama in Jordan, and His Excellency Adli Qasem
Alkhaladi, the concurrent ambassador of Jordan in Panama from Mexico.
The 30th anniversary
According to a statement, H.E. Lescure,
emphasized the value of the friendship group as a channel to strengthen bilateral
ties between the two nations. The establishment of this group takes on added
significance as Panama and Jordan approach the 30th anniversary of their
diplomatic relations on February 7, 2024. Both nations share common values and
principles on the international stage, reinforcing their relationship. Jordan's
role in peace efforts in the
Middle East and Panama's dedication to peace and
security in Central America further underscore their commitment to
international conflict resolution and cooperation. Both countries also uphold
the importance of respecting International Law and multilateralism for peaceful
global coexistence.
Bilateral relations
Meanwhile, H.E. Alkhaladi, shared his
positive sentiment about the creation of the friendship group. He expressed
optimism that the group will serve as an effective model for political and
diplomatic cooperation, contributing to the strengthening of bilateral
relations across political, economic, and cultural domains.
Inter-parliamentary friendship groups serve
as instrumental tools of modern diplomacy, fostering international cooperation,
political dialogue, and cultural understanding between nations at the
legislative level. This initiative is poised to pave the way for deeper
engagements in various fields, including trade, economy, and education, further
enhancing bilateral diplomatic relations.
The Republic of Panama and the Kingdom
initiated diplomatic ties on February 7, 1994. Over the past three decades, the
two countries have signed various agreements encompassing politics, tourism,
and academia. Their current focus remains on intensifying cooperation in
political and security spheres, alongside expanding trade relationships.
Panama's strategic geographic assets, encompassing the Panama Canal, a prominent
free trade zone, special economic zones, and an international banking center,
position it as a pivotal gateway to the Latin American and Caribbean region.
