AMMAN — Deputizing for HRH Crown Prince Hussein, Prime Minister Bisher Al- Khasawneh attended the graduation ceremony of a cohort of specialist doctors in the Arab Board of Health Specializations (ABHS) programs for 2022.اضافة اعلان

Khasawneh handed over honorary shields to former ABHS heads and secretaries-general. Minister of Health, ABHS acting chair, Firas Hawari, also distributed certificates to the outstanding graduates.

The ceremony was part of a symposium celebrating the 45th anniversary of the ABHS. It was attended by over 300 specialist doctors from 22 Arab countries, as well as members of the Arab League, partners of the ABHS, and members of the high commission and executive committees of the scientific councils.

Support to the institutionMinister of Health Firas Hawari, also the acting chair of the ABHS, called for supporting the institution to develop the health sector in the Arab countries and improve health services for their people.

In his keynote speech, Hawari stressed the importance of expanding specializations, accreditation, quality assurance, medical education and training, measurement, and evaluation, as well as continuous professional development.

"The ABHS is a leading Arab institution, and is considered one of the most successful institutions of joint Arab action,” he said.

It is a major incubator for building the capabilities of  youth working in the health sector, as it directs and refines them to serve the health systems in various Arab countries, he added. This allows the “to achieve the ABHS mission, which was written by the founding Arab ministers of health 45 years ago”.

Prioritizing the improvement of primary healthcareHaifa Abu Ghazaleh, assistant secretary-general and head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, reaffirmed her support for the development of the ABHS and stated that she was looking forward for increase cooperation to bolster the health sector in the least developed Arab countries.

She urged Arab governments to prioritize the improvement of primary healthcare and thanked Jordan for hosting the ABHS in its temporary headquarters in Amman.

The forum is being held in Jordan from February 9 to 12 under the patronage of HRH Crown Prince Hussein.
