About 410,000
cell phone devices were
imported at a value of JD43 million during Q1 2023, and 342,000, worth JD32
million were imported in Q2, Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
China exports the most cell phones to
Jordan, followed by India and South Korea, Ahmad Alloush, head of the
association, said.
A 16% tax
However, Alloush pointed out that
imports dropped from 2022, where they amounted to JD174 million, and marked a decline
of about 16 percent from 2021. He attributed the downward trend to the
imposition of a 16 percent tax on
cellular devices.
He said that
financial statements in the
last three years showed a significant tax impact on sales, especially as cell
phones have become a necessity, not a luxury.
